SAGD
Oil Sands in-situ production is being revolutionized with the introduction of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) production methods. SAGD uses horizontal well pairs to extract crude bitumen from the oil sands reservoir. In the production process, hot steam is injected into the reservoir using the upper well, and the reduced viscosity bitumen is pumped out of the reservoir from the lower well. A large amount of water is brought up to the surface with the bitumen, which must be separated prior to further processing. The produced water contains dissolved material that must be removed before it can be recycled as steam.
Aqua-Pure’s evaporator technology is ideally suited to recycling produced water directly from the skim tank so that the water can be re-used as boiler feedwater to make more steam. Our compact design significantly reduces the overall facility footprint, lowering capital costs. The system is also resistant to scaling and fouling. When scaling does occur, it is much easier to service than conventional shell and tube evaporator systems, improving energy efficiency and reducing downtime.
Aqua-Pure’s subsidiary, Fountain Quail, currently operates two SAGD evaporator installations and holds a joint patent with EnCana for an MVR evaporator with a waste heat recovery system.
We make environmentally sustainable solutions cost-effective; because water is too precious to waste.
